*NLVFD Annual Awards!*

The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department recognized first responders for their exceptional efforts during the past year at its annual awards ceremony last month at the North Las Vegas City Hall. Commendations were awarded to North Las Vegas firefighters as well as Clark County firefighters and North Las Vegas police officers and dispatchers who performed life-saving actions during emergencies.

 

This annual award ceremony is a small way to recognize the huge impact and accomplishments of the City of North Las Vegas first responders within our communities. Thank you to each and every one of you!

*Go Purple! It’s the (Marsy’s) Law! *

 

April 23 - 29 was National Crime Victims’ week, and our City Council was honored to participate and help spread the word by wearing purple at our April 19 City Council meeting. 

 

In recognition of Marsy’s Law for Nevada, Nevada citizens, civic leaders and businesses were urged to unite and GO PURPLE. The goal of Marsy’s Law is to bring awareness about the needs of victims and the rights they have in Nevada, and offer recognition for the outstanding professionals who work each day to protect and inform survivors and see that justice is done.

*Homeless Services April Appreciation Pop-up Event*

 

The City of North Las Vegas and its community partners gathered together again in their ongoing efforts to serve the community by providing those with transient living situations the resources and tools to obtain a stable home.

 

The pop-up event took place at Tonopah Park and was selected for its convenience and to be able to help the most people at once – and it worked!

 

We had a tremendous turnout and attendees were provided with hot pizza, cold water, resources to obtain welfare, housing, medical services, veteran assistance, and much more!

*North Las Vegas Students Receive Charles and Phyllis Frias Scholarship *

 

I was happy to accompany the Public Education Fund to present the Charles and Phyllis Frias Scholarship to two North Las Vegas students. It was a truly special moment to witness these studious and hardworking young ladies receiving these scholarships.

 

As part of applying for this scholarship the applicant must show that they have overcome financial hardship and adversity. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for these strong-minded ladies who have already conquered so many obstacles. I am positive they have great things ahead of them!

*Jobs for Nevada Grads!* 

 

It was an honor to join our partners at Amazon and some local Cheyenne High School students as part of the Jobs for Nevada's Graduates Program. It was wonderful to connect with so many young minds, tour the facilities and talk about career opportunities for our future North Las Vegas Grads!

*Sharing Our Accomplishments*

 

I am always excited and proud when I’m invited to address business groups about our city’s growth and connect with associations to share how we can all work together. This last month I spoke to members of the Institute of Real Estate Management [ https://lasvegasirem.org ]which provides training and support to residential and commercial real estate professionals.

 

All of the growth and momentum in the City of North Las Vegas means more retail, industrial and housing units coming online, more companies and residents needing space and homes, and more opportunities and need for real estate professionals.

*Celebrating the Arts*

 

As a former music teacher and classically-trained pianist, I was thrilled to participate in the Convention Society Incorporated [ https://www.thesocietyinc.org/ ]’s April luncheon. This local chapter of a national non-profit is dedicated to enhancing, exposing and promoting youth in the arts. Thank you to all of the members and supporters of this inspiring organization, and to the amazing students who performed for us.

*Emiliano Zapata’s Anniversary Celebration*

 

April 17th marked the 104th anniversary of Emiliano Zapata's death.  Zapata was a leading general in the Mexican revolution of 1910-1920 and the establishment of a constitutional republic

 

To commemorate his leadership and significance in Mexican history, the City of North Las Vegas, in conjunction with the Mexican Consulate, paid tribute at the Zapata statue here at City Hall. The statue was gifted with the help of Councilman Barron by the government of Morelos, Mexico in 2019, and mirrors the diversity of the citizens and the community we represent here in North Las Vegas. 

 

We are so proud and honored to have this figure and all that it represents on display every day!

*International Friendships*

 

The City of North Las Vegas welcomes friends from all over the world to our city. This April we had a visit from our international friends in Guatemala. We were happy to welcome the Guatemalan Ambassadors, Reagan Vega Santizo and Victor Humbertos Ramirez Scaglia, and the Guatemalan Consulate from Los Angeles Jose Arturo Rodriguez Diaz.

*Mariachi For Scholarships*

 

Mariachi music transcends language and cultures, and the City of North Las Vegas is always happy to support our local music talent and celebrate this world-renown music.

 

Councilwoman Garcia-Anderson and I were invited to the “Mariachi for Scholarships'' concert organized by the Mexican Consulate and other community partners this past April at the College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas Campus. This event creates scholarship opportunities for young Mariachi Students in our community who wish to pursue a higher education.

 

The show featured local mariachi groups and 100% of the ticket sales were donated to fund scholarships for students. I was honored to attend this wonderful event and listen to all the talented musicians produced in our local music education programs.

My former Rancho High School student and Government Affairs Director at NAHREP, Esmeralda Villeda, invited me to speak at this event to share all the exciting things that are taking place in the City of North Las Vegas with this group of engaged Hispanic professionals.

 

Our city has come a long way in the last 10 years and I was happy to share how our minority-majority community is one of the fastest growing cities in the country in terms of population, economic development and amenities!

 

Our award-winning master-planned communities and friendly government serve our diverse population and make our city an ideal place for future homeowners and businesses to relocate or settle. That is what you call an EASY SELL in the real estate business, and we have the stats to prove it.

 

The City of North Las Vegas ranked #1 in new home market sales with 27% market share in the Las Vegas Valley in 2020. We celebrate our Latino population and implement policies that strengthen their buying power and continued interest in homeownership.

*¡Premios anuales de NLVFD!*

 

El Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de North Las Vegas reconoció a los socorristas por sus esfuerzos excepcionales durante el año pasado en su ceremonia anual de premios el mes pasado en el Ayuntamiento de North Las Vegas. Se otorgaron elogios a los bomberos de North Las Vegas, así como a los bomberos del condado de Clark y a los oficiales de policía y despachadores de North Las Vegas que realizaron acciones para salvar vidas durante emergencias.

 

Esta ceremonia anual de premiación es una pequeña manera de reconocer el enorme impacto y los logros de los socorristas de la Ciudad de North Las Vegas dentro de nuestras comunidades. ¡Gracias a cada uno de ustedes!

La Ciudad de North Las Vegas y sus socios comunitarios se unieron nuevamente en sus esfuerzos continuos para servir a la comunidad al proporcionar a las personas con situaciones de hogares transitorios los recursos y las herramientas para obtener una vivienda estable.

 

El evento emergente se llevó a cabo en Tonopah Park y fue seleccionado por su conveniencia y para poder ayudar a la mayoría de las personas a la vez, ¡y funcionó!

 

¡Tuvimos una gran participación y los asistentes recibieron pizza caliente, agua fría, recursos para obtener asistencia social, vivienda, servicios médicos, asistencia para veteranos y mucho más!

*¡Vuélvete morado! ¡Es la Ley (de Marsy)!*

 

Del 23 al 29 de abril fue la Semana Nacional de las Víctimas del Crimen, y nuestro Concejo Municipal tuvo el honor de participar y ayudar a correr la voz vistiéndose de púrpura en nuestra reunión del Concejo Municipal del 19 de abril.

 

En reconocimiento a la Ley de Marsy para Nevada, se instó a los ciudadanos, líderes cívicos y empresas de Nevada a unirse y SER PÚRPURA. El objetivo de la Ley de Marsy es crear conciencia sobre las necesidades de las víctimas y los derechos que tienen en Nevada, y ofrecer reconocimiento a los destacados profesionales que trabajan todos los días para proteger e informar a los sobrevivientes y asegurarse de que se haga justicia.

*Celebración del aniversario de Emiliano Zapata*

 

El 17 de abril se cumplieron 104 años de la muerte de Emiliano Zapata. Zapata fue un general destacado en la revolución mexicana de 1910-1920 y el establecimiento de una república constitucional.

 

Para conmemorar su liderazgo y significado en la historia de México, la Ciudad de North Las Vegas, en conjunto con el Consulado de México, rindió homenaje a la estatua de Zapata aquí en el Ayuntamiento. La estatua fue obsequiada con la ayuda del concejal Barron por el gobierno de Morelos, México en 2019, y refleja la diversidad de los ciudadanos y la comunidad que representamos aquí en North Las Vegas.

 

¡Estamos muy orgullosos y honrados de tener esta figura y todo lo que representa en exhibición todos los días!

La ciudad de North Las Vegas da la bienvenida a amigos de todo el mundo a nuestra ciudad. Este abril tuvimos la visita de nuestros amigos internacionales en Guatemala. *Mariachi Para Becas 2023*

 

La música de mariachi trasciende idiomas y culturas, y la ciudad de North Las Vegas siempre está feliz de apoyar a nuestro talento musical local y celebrar esta música de renombre mundial.

 

La concejal Garcia-Anderson y yo fuimos invitados al concierto "Mariachi para becas" organizado por el Consulado Mexicano y otros socios de la comunidad el mes pasado en el campus de College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas.

 

Este evento crea oportunidades de becas para jóvenes estudiantes de Mariachi en nuestra comunidad que deseen seguir una educación superior. El espectáculo contó con grupos de mariachis locales y el 100% de la venta de boletos se donó para financiar becas para estudiantes.

 

Tuve el honor de asistir a este maravilloso evento y escuchar a todos los músicos talentosos producidos en nuestros programas locales de educación musical.

Mi ex alumna de Rancho High School y Directora de Asuntos Gubernamentales de NAHREP, Esmeralda Villeda, me invitó a hablar en este evento para compartir todas las cosas emocionantes que están ocurriendo en la ciudad de North Las Vegas con este grupo de profesionales hispanos comprometidos.

 

Nuestra ciudad ha recorrido un largo camino en los últimos 10 años y me complació compartir cómo nuestra comunidad de mayoría minoritaria es una de las ciudades de más rápido crecimiento en el país en términos de población, desarrollo económico y servicios.

 

Nuestras galardonadas comunidades planificadas y nuestro amable gobierno sirven a nuestra diversa población y hacen de nuestra ciudad un lugar ideal para que los futuros propietarios de viviendas y empresas se muden o se establezcan. Eso es lo que usted llama una VENTA FÁCIL en el negocio de bienes raíces, y tenemos las estadísticas para probarlo.

 

La ciudad de North Las Vegas ocupó el primer lugar en ventas de viviendas nuevas con una participación de mercado del 27 % en el Valle de Las Vegas en 2020. Celebramos a nuestra población latina e implementamos políticas que fortalecen su poder adquisitivo y su interés continuo en ser propietarios de viviendas.

*NLVFD Annual Awards! *

 

The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department recognized first responders for their exceptional efforts during the past year at its annual awards ceremony last month at the North Las Vegas City Hall.

 

Commendations were awarded to North Las Vegas firefighters as well as Clark County firefighters and North Las Vegas police officers and dispatchers who performed life-saving actions during emergencies.

 

This annual award ceremony is a small way to recognize the huge impact and accomplishments of the City of North Las Vegas first responders within our communities.

*Go Purple! It’s the (Marsy’s) Law!*

April 23 - 29 was National Crime Victims’ week, and our City Council was honored to participate and help spread the word by wearing purple at our April 19 City Council meeting.

 

In recognition of Marsy’s Law for Nevada, Nevada citizens, civic leaders and businesses were urged to unite and GO PURPLE.

 

The goal of Marsy’s Law is to bring awareness about the needs of victims and the rights they have in Nevada, and offer recognition for the outstanding professionals who work each day to protect and inform survivors and see that justice is done.

*Tree Planting & Park Cleanup Event*

 

Ready, set, grow! This month, I gathered with members of the community to plant new life and keep Desert Horizons Park sparkling in honor of Earth day and National Youth Day of Service!

 

I am proud to say that over 60 people showed up, which allowed us to plant over 70 plants, multiple trees, and clean up trash and debris throughout the park.

 

I was surprised to see how many residents were gifted with “green thumbs” and I was grateful to meet all the amazing people that were so eager to help.

 

A huge thank you goes out to JustServe and all of the community members that contributed for making this event such a success.

*Homeless Services April Appreciation Pop-up Event*

 

The City of North Las Vegas and its community partners gathered together again in their ongoing efforts to serve the community by providing those with transient living situations the resources and tools to obtain a stable home.

 

The pop-up event took place at Tonopah Park and was selected for its convenience and to be able to help the most people at once – and it worked!

 

We had a tremendous turnout and attendees were provided with delicious pizza, cold water, resources to obtain welfare, housing, medical services, veteran assistance, and much more!

*Mariachi For Scholarships*

 

Mariachi music transcends language and cultures, and the City of North Las Vegas is always happy to support our local music talent and celebrate this world-renown music.

 

Councilman Barron and I were invited to the “Mariachi for Scholarships'' concert organized by the Mexican Consulate and other community partners this past April at the College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas Campus.

 

This event creates scholarship opportunities for young Mariachi Students in our community who wish to pursue a higher education. The show featured local mariachi groups and 100% of the ticket sales were donated to fund scholarships for students.

 

I was honored to attend this wonderful event and listen to all the talented musicians produced in our local music education programs.

*Blast to the Past at Priest Elementary*

 

I had the opportunity to attend the 20th anniversary of Richard C. Priest Elementary School. It was an evening filled with performances by their choir, drama club, autism class as well as student speeches about how much the students love their school and their principal Ms. Pamela Hays. The evening culminated with the opening of their time-capsule which revealed items the students had chosen as the most popular back in 2003.

*¡Premios anuales de NLVFD!*

 

El Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de North Las Vegas reconoció a los socorristas por sus esfuerzos excepcionales durante el año pasado en su ceremonia anual de premios el mes pasado en el Ayuntamiento de North Las Vegas.

 

Se otorgaron elogios a los bomberos de North Las Vegas, así como a los bomberos del condado de Clark y a los oficiales de policía y despachadores de North Las Vegas que realizaron acciones para salvar vidas durante emergencias.

 

Esta ceremonia anual de premiación es una pequeña manera de reconocer el enorme impacto y los logros de los socorristas de la Ciudad de North Las Vegas dentro de nuestras comunidades.

*Evento de plantación de árboles y limpieza de parques*

 

¡En sus marcas, listos, a crecer! ¡Este mes, me reuní con miembros de la comunidad para plantar nueva vida y mantener el Parque Desert Horizons brillante en honor al Día de la Tierra y el Día Nacional del Servicio Juvenil!

 

Me enorgullece decir que asistieron más de 60 personas, lo que nos permitió plantar más de 70 plantas, varios árboles y limpiar la basura y los escombros en todo el parque.

 

Me sorprendió ver que tantos residentes  tenían "buena mano" con las plantas y estoy agradecida con todas las personas increíbles que participaron en el evento.

 

Un enorme agradecimiento a JustServe y a todos los miembros de la comunidad que contribuyeron para que este evento fuera un éxito.

Del 23 al 29 de abril fue la Semana Nacional de las Víctimas del Crimen, y nuestro Concejo Municipal tuvo el honor de participar y ayudar a correr la voz vistiéndose de púrpura en nuestra reunión del Concejo Municipal del 19 de abril.

 

En reconocimiento a la Ley de Marsy para Nevada, se instó a los ciudadanos, líderes cívicos y empresas de Nevada a unirse y vestir MORADO.

 

El objetivo de la Ley de Marsy es crear conciencia sobre las necesidades de las víctimas y los derechos que tienen en Nevada, y ofrecer reconocimiento a los destacados profesionales que trabajan todos los días para proteger e informar a los sobrevivientes y asegurarse de que se haga justicia.

*Evento en Abril de Agradecimiento para personas sin hogar*

 

La Ciudad de North Las Vegas y sus socios comunitarios se unieron nuevamente en sus esfuerzos continuos para servir a la comunidad al proporcionar a las personas con situaciones de hogares transitorios los recursos y las herramientas para obtener una vivienda estable.

 

El evento emergente se llevó a cabo en Tonopah Park y fue seleccionado por su conveniencia y para poder ayudar a la mayoría de las personas a la vez, ¡y funcionó!

 

¡Tuvimos una gran participación y los asistentes recibieron pizza deliciosa, agua fría, recursos para obtener asistencia social, vivienda, servicios médicos, asistencia para veteranos y mucho más!

*Becas Para Mariachi 2023*

 

La música de mariachi trasciende idiomas y culturas, y la ciudad de North Las Vegas siempre está feliz de apoyar a nuestro talento musical local y celebrar esta música de renombre mundial. El concejal Barron y yo fuimos invitados al concierto "Mariachi para becas" organizado por el Consulado Mexicano y otros socios de la comunidad el mes pasado en el campus de College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas. Este evento crea oportunidades de becas para jóvenes estudiantes de Mariachi en nuestra comunidad que deseen seguir una educación superior. El espectáculo contó con grupos de mariachis locales y el 100% de la venta de boletos se donó para financiar becas para estudiantes. Tuve el honor de asistir a este maravilloso evento y escuchar a todos los músicos talentosos producidos en nuestros programas locales de educación musical.

*Cumple 20 años la escuela primaria Richard C. Priest*

 

Tuve la oportunidad de asistir al vigésimo aniversario de la Escuela Primaria Richard C. Priest. Fue una noche llena de actuaciones de su coro, club de teatro, clase de autismo, así como discursos de los estudiantes sobre cuánto aman a su escuela y a su directora, la Sra. Pamela Hays. La velada culminó con la apertura de su cápsula del tiempo que reveló elementos que los estudiantes habían elegido como los más populares en 2003.
