"Take A Survey To Help Shape The Charleston Area Plan"

The public is invited to help shape the future of a portion of Ward 1 west of downtown with the Charleston Area Plan. Safe streets, parks and wide sidewalks full of businesses are some of the proposals that the public can share feedback regarding by taking a survey in English [ https://lasvegasnevada.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eOL36nMkAPHRmD4?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] or Spanish [ https://lasvegasnevada.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6YF4WFbmUyF9zwy?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] or by joining a focus group or attending a community event. The survey is open until Dec. 9, 2024.

Charleston is one of 16 areas of the city that will receive local area plans, according to the Las Vegas 2050 Master Plan. The Charleston Area Plan will guide growth for the next 25 years for communities between Interstate 15 and Buffalo Drive, south of U.S. 95. The area is home to more than 75,000 residents and includes neighborhoods such as Rancho Circle, Meadows, Charleston Heights, Richfield and Rainbow Park.

This is the second round of public engagement on the plan, with the first round conducted in June.

“People told us loud and clear that they want safer streets so that families can walk to the park without worrying about high-speed cars,” said Mayor Pro Tem and Ward 1 Councilman Brian Knudsen. “They want safe, comfortable bus stops protected from the sun. Most of all, they want more housing options for people of all ages and backgrounds, close to transit and jobs.”

The plan identifies goals for the area including wider sidewalks, safe crossings and replacing parking lots with buildings that will line the street with businesses on the ground floor. The plan proposes gradual change, with no major increases in density.

The Charleston Area Plan coincides with a separate project that aims to add high-capacity transit on Charleston Boulevard, led by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
